Communications Specialist, Department of Health
Aoife Gillivan has been a Communications Specialist in the Department of Health since 2018. Prior to that she was a Broadcast Producer for Newstalk FM. She was recruited by the Department to establish a social media arm to the existing press office, designing and implementing digital content strategies, launching new social channels and growing audiences across all platforms. In 2019 she was assigned COVID-19 Communications Team Lead. She supported the Department’s Head of Communications on pandemic communications including, public health messaging (all things yellow), NPHET communications and stakeholder engagement. Aoife supervised the Department’s COVID-19 social and web content, as well as developing the social profiles of the Chief Medical Officer and Deputy Chief Medical Officer. In recent years, social media has contributed to widespread misinformation around existing vaccines and health interventions. Therefore, in January 2020, safeguarding the Department’s social channels as trusted and expert sources became an immediate priority.
